Our nippers program runs fortnightly on Sundays and board training fortnightly Friday afternoons.

Age groups
Your child’s age group is determined by their age at midnight on September 30 2023.

What we do
We'd love your help! Volunteering with Camden Haven SLSC is a great way to give back to the community. We would welcome your help with anything from setting up the beach for nippers, helping with our barbecues, right through to gaining your Bronze Medallion with us! We also need adults willing to gain accreditation to be carnival officials. If we cannot provide officials, our nippers (and adult competitors) may not be able to compete at carnivals, or the number of competitors is restricted. Please see Nicole Crowe, junior activities coordinator, if you are interested in becoming an official or our trainer Ben Hosick for surf rescue, rescue boat crew/driver, and bronze courses.
PRE-SEASON
Preliminary evaluation swim
All nippers aged under 6 – 14 need to complete an annual evaluation swim and float as part of their registration. This ensures a minimum and safe standard of swimming and survival ability for water activities at nippers.
Ocean swim
All nippers aged Under 9 – Under 14 need to complete an annual competition evaluation, including an ocean swim at Grants Beach North Haven, as part of their registration. This ensures a minimum and safe swimming standard and water activities' survival ability. This allows nippers to compete at carnivals.
Swim Ability
Swimming is a major part of surf lifesaving. You don't have to be super speedy, but being a confident swimmer is an advantage. If your child struggles with swimming, we strongly recommended using your Active Kids voucher for regular learn-to-swim or squad programs at a local pool.
SUNDAYS
Nippers start at 9.30am every second Sunday. We'd love family members to help set up beach activities and pack away. Many hands = light work. You can also help by being an age manager, BBQ helper, fundraising, water safety, officiating at carnivals, or first aid officer.
If you want to help with water safety, please contact us; some training is involved.
FRIDAY BOARD TRAINING
Every second Friday, at 4:30pm, we hold board training in the calm waters of the Camden Haven River, near the community hall. This helps with balance, using rescue boards, and paddling skills.
COMMUNICATION
All updates regarding Nippers will be posted on our Facebook page. Bulk emails and SMS texts will also be sent out to members for important information. Please reach out to our Junior Activities Coordinator, Nicole Crowe, or any committee member if you have any ideas or need any information - we encourage open communication.
